2011 College Table
Tennis National Championships April 15-17, 2011
in Rochester, MN
**NEWS RELEASE** APRIL 13, 2011
College Table Tennis Embraces Live
Streaming and Social Media 2011
Championships Video To Be Streamed Live Around the World for the First Time
For
a sports fan, few things are better than watching an event live and in
person. For those who may not be able to travel to take in the action at the
2011 College Table Tennis Championships first hand, NCTTA is offering the
next best thing: live streaming video of feature matches over the Internet! For
the first time ever, people around the world will be able to experience the
excitement of college table tennis’ big event online via their web browser or
on their mobile phone. “We intend to start broadcasting live from Rochester
at the Regional Recreational Sports Center as early as the first day from
center court,” says Ed Hogshead, Competition Manager for the 2011
Championships. The
destination for live streamed Championships video is: http://www.nctta.org/champs/2011/video.html
Interested
viewers from around the globe will have the opportunity to experience this
unique college sport all three days of competition, beginning April 15 and
running through April 17. A schedule of feature matches is available on the
streaming page. Compared
to NCTTA’s live streaming efforts, the organization’s use of Twitter and
other social media is old hat. NCTTA first established its Twitter presence
in March 2009 in the weeks leading up to the 2009 Championships and in the
time since has accumulated over 600 tweets about the latest and greatest
happenings in college table tennis. “In
2011 we are looking to make our use of Twitter more interactive to include
the actual athletes at the venue in the competition with others following
along back home,” explains NCTTA President Willy Leparulo.
“College students just about live off of social media, so it’s a very natural
fit for any college sport.” The NCTTA Twitter feed will be bringing updates
on the 2011 College Table Tennis Championships to enthusiasts around the
country and beyond. Join
the conversation via the official college table tennis twitter feed at: http://www.twitter.com/collegett
Players and spectators
alike will enjoy a jam-packed weekend of table tennis at the 2011 College
Table Tennis Championships. The event starts Friday April 15th and continues
to Sunday April 17th at the Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minneosta. Organized by the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association
(NCTTA), the Championships are sponsored by Killerspin, a
Chicago-based table tennis firm and Newgy Industries (Gallatin, TN). The event is also
supported by the Association of College Unions
International (ACUI) and by USA Table Tennis,
the national governing body for table tennis in the US. About NCTTA The National Collegiate
