2011 College Table Tennis National Championships April 15-17, 2011
in Rochester, MN
**NEWS RELEASE** APRIL 8, 2011
Sun Sisters Look to Rise to the
Occasion in Minnesota 2011
Championships Brings Together Twin Sisters Attending Different Schools
Born
on the same day, sisters Sandy and Sunny Sun cannot recall spending a
birthday apart. About
a week after reaching their 20th birthday, the table tennis standouts from
Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania and will be spending
quality time together at the 2011 College Table Tennis Championships. Both
are members of the Class of 2013 at two great institutions. While they now
live nearly 1,000 miles apart, their college majors are actually pretty
close. Sandy is studying computer science at Penn, the Ivy League school in
the heart of Philly. Sunny’s major is electrical
and computer engineering at Duke where basketball is king. Shengzhi “Sandy” Sun says
she's really not sure what she will be doing in the real world after earning
her degree at the University of Pennsylvania. “I hope to work in the software
development industry,” she says. But
her main focus now is gearing up for the College Nationals in Rochester,
Minnesota, April 15-17. She's the only one from her school competing.
Although Pennsylvania's team didn't win qualify out of a tough Mid-Atlantic
Division, Sandy Sun qualified for the Championships through the ACUI Region 3
singles tournament at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Meanwhile,
Duke's Sunny Sun is getting ready to pack her paddle and join her teammates
on the biggest stage for collegiate table tennis in America and Canada. The
Duke Women’s team earned a direct qualification spot to the Championships by
winning the Virginia-Carolina Division in the NCTTA regular season. Not
identical, these fraternal twin sisters officially become 20 year olds on
Friday April 8th, and they plan to be together for the big occasion. With the
Nationals rapidly approaching, we anticipate their birthday celebration will
be short. Expect the sisters to be polishing their table tennis game for a
few hours on their birthday. The
Sun sisters were born in Qingdao, China and moved to Ohio as six-year-olds.
And when not hitting the books or honing their computer skills, they find
enough time to practice their table tennis skills. Opponents should beware.
These natives of China should be at the top of their game at the NCTTA's
biggest and best tournament of the year. Players and
spectators alike will enjoy a weekend full of table tennis at the 2011
College Table Tennis Championships. The event starts Friday April 15th and
continues to Sunday April 17th at the Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minneosta. About NCTTA The
National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA) is a non-profit
organization established exclusively for promoting the sport of table tennis
at the college level. As the national governing body for college table tennis
in the United States and Canada, NCTTA organizes intercollegiate competition
throughout North America. www.nctta.org
