Summer’s here, and there’s a buzz in the air even during the college table tennis-off season. NCTTA leadership positions are opening, the 2010 Championship locale has been finalized, and we reveal your favorite college table tennis athletes of the year. It’s all inside this edition of the NCTTA Newsletter!

2009 Superlative Award Winners
The best of the best in the 2008-2009 season

From fresh success to veteran dominance, it was a great year for college table tennis. Here's a rundown of standouts, the 2009 Superlative Award Winners:

Male Athlete of the Year: Mark Hazinski (Texas Wesleyan)
Others recieving votes: Dave Llona, Tahl Leibovitz, Carlos Alvarado

Female Athlete of the Year: Judy Hugh (Rutgers)

Coach/Manager of the Year: Andrew Knips (Wisconsin)

Rookie Team of the Year: Lindenwood
Others recieving votes: Michigan State

Most Improved Team: Columbia
Others receiving votes: Central Florida, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico

Division Director of the Year: Randy Kendle (Midwest Division)
Others receiving votes: Jenny Wang, Nathan Reilly, Adam Bobrow, Sumon Roy, Seemant Teotia

Call for Division Directors
NCTTA wants YOU!

Are you looking for ways to get involved with fun extracurricular activities? Or to spruce up your resume with leadership activities? Or how about being able to make a long-lasting impact on college table tennis?

Whatever your reason may be, NCTTA is looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to become Division Directors in the following regions:
  • Carolina
  • Eastern Canada
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Mid-Atlantic
  • Minnesota
  • New York City
  • Northern California
  • Northwest
  • Ohio
  • Texas
  • Southern California
  • Virginia

Qualified Division Directors must:
  • Check and respond to email at least once every 24 hours
  • Organize and run league competition in your division
  • Not be a player in NCTTA Division competition
NCTTA will provide the following to all selected Division Directors:
  • USATT membership
  • Umpire Certification (includes registration and test fee)
  • NCTTA Division Director polo shirt
  • Financial assistance to cover a portion of your expenses if you choose to volunteer at the 2010 College Table Tennis National Championships
  • Extensive training to get you started
  • Assistance throughout the year from a dedicated NCTTA representative

Wisconsin to Host 2010 Championships
The best of college table tennis will head to Waukesha, Wisconsin next Spring

The 2010 College Table Tennis National Championships will be held in Waukesha, Wisconsin (in the Milwaukee metro area). NCTTA is excited to be partnering with the Waukesha & Pewaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau to bring the Championships to Wisconsin for 2010 (Press Release).

The Championships will be held at the Center Court Sports Complex. More details will be made available through the NCTTA Website as planning progresses throughout the year. Thanks to everyone who provided discussion and input into the selection process. Already looking forward to another great Championships!

Newgy-NCTTA Scholarship Program: 2009-2010

National Scholarship Program looks to build on successful first year

The NCTTA National Scholarship Program was started a year ago to recognize outstanding student athletes with support for their undergraduate education. Now, with continued, generous support from long-time college table tennis supporter, Newgy Industries, the program is back for a second year.

How does it work? NCTTA is able to award a limited number of $1000 scholarships to individual with demonstrated table tennis passion and skill, academic ability, and financial need (full selection critieria). If you're a current or rising undergraduate student attending an NCTTA member school, consider submitting an application. Application deadline is August 15, 2009.
