Public and Private Schools Come Together at NCTTA Northeast Regional Championships

Where else can you get students from all kinds of academic institutions under one roof, not comparing resumes and accolades about their respective schools?

College table tennis is all about footwork, forehands and passion. This weekend at the Fashion Institute of Technology, the likes of Harvard, Princeton, Boston University and others will take part in the 2015 Northeast Regional Championships sponsored by Joola, TMS and Double Fish.

Jay Lu, Northeast Region Director shares his impressions of this weekend's athletes. "Northeast has a star-studded cast of players including former Olympians, National Champions, and a Paralympic National Champion. There are newcomers with Tahl Leibovitz joining Michael Landers at NYU, and Erica Wu joins Ariel Hsing and Shirley Fu at Princeton, making this perhaps the strongest women's lineup in the league."

Princeton's women's team is looking to repeat and is even stronger with the addition of Erica Wu who happens to be featured with Ariel Hsing in the Topspin movie!

Events in Men's and Women's Singles, and Men's/Coed and Women's Team competition are on the agenda, but even more is the potential for a berth to the 2015 TMS College Table Tennis Championships in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Women's Singles competitors will include Princeton's Ariel Hsing, last year's College Table Tennis Women's Singles champion!

The men's singles field isn't too shabby either, with 8 out of the 24 qualifiers rated over 2000 including the top two seeds, NYU teammates Michael Landers and veteran Tahl Leibovitz. Leibovitz played back in 2009 as an undergrad at Queens College, and returns to collegiate competition with NYU. Leibovitz won national collegiate doubles titles in 2008 and 2009, so look for him to make some waves!

In men's/coed team competition, NYU, Princeton and Harvard look to be the front runners; but look out for the dark horses Brandeis, Brown and SUNY Stonybrook who will look to catch the top guns by surprise.
