* WHAT NEWSLETTER? *

Welcome to the first issue of the LNITT Newsletter. Tidbits and news about the LNITT, about where we are and where we're going. This will become a regular bi-weekly feature.

* WWW *

Over the interim, Vivek Sikri of Boston University was appointed LNITT Vice-President for Communications.
His job is a huge one, turning our web site into a communications center, a table tennis magazine and eventually a source of revenue over time. He's already hard at work putting up email addresses, phone numbers, directions and more about each LNITT member school. The work is not complete yet, but is nearing completion. That's why we need the Communications Forms so badly... we'll give out the url when there's something to see. Give it a few days.
Vivek could use a lot of help. Anyone with Web skills, editing, journalism or oganizational skills, email vasikri@bu.edu.

* MIT vs. DARTMOUTH *

On January 24, Saturday, MIT visited Dartmouth to meet in Dartmouth's first ever home game. MIT was short a player and Darmouth was missing it's best player, but it all didn't seem to matter. The MIT trio handed Dartmouth a handy defeat, not dropping a _single game_ during the entire meet.

* WELCOME *

Welcome Cornell University! Cornell found the LNITT through the web and has just joined the Southern Division. You can drop Cornell Captain Semyon Kruglyak a note of welcome at kruglyak@orie.cornell.edu .

* NEW MATCH FORMAT *

At the Dartmouth vs. MIT meet a new format was proposed and tried. According to this new format, instead of the same seeded players playing each other, everyone plays two singles matches. The top two seeds play the other team's top two seeds, and the 3rd and 4th seeds both play the other team's third and fourth seeds. There is still only one doubles game.
This format added 4 singles matches and extended the meet significantly. In my opinion it makes the meets more substantial, less of a "sudden death" type of thing. More suspense, more playing time. Of course, at the Dartmouth vs MIT meet there wasn't much suspense (see account above) and the outcome was the same no matter what format was taken into account. If we were to formally adopt this new format, we'd have to vote on it. But for now, it is worth thinking about and experimenting with. Please email your ideas/opinions about this to the discussion list at lnittdsc@listerv.dartmouth.edu .

* SEND STUFF *

We are putting all the past meet results on the web. If you have any emails with results in it or results sheet please email it to the Communications VP at vasikri@bu.edu or make sure he doesn't already have it. You can also always mail results to lnitt@dartmouth.edu .
This Newsletter will become a regular feature. Feel free to submit opinion pieces, accounts of tournaments, notices or anything that you feel is relevant to the LNITT and table tennis in General.
